DRDP (2025) Is HERE: What You Need to Know
Now supported in Learning Genie
The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP 2025) is the foundational assessment tool used across California to support the development of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. DRDP (2025) has now officially replaced DRDP (2015).
Learning Genie fully supports the DRDP (2025) framework to help educators seamlessly collect documentation, integrate with DRDP Online, and access their reporting.
DRDP (2025) reports are available in Learning Genie and can be accessed directly in Data Hub ➔ DRDP Reports
Mandatory Implementation (2026–2027)
As of the 2026–2027 school year, DRDP (2025) is the standard required instrument. This mandate applies to:
All CDE/CDSS early care and education programs.
Special education service providers from Local Education Agencies for all children 0–5.
Infants, toddlers, preschoolers, transitional kindergarteners, and children with IFSPs or IEPs
When to Complete Assessments
Depending on your program's specific regulations, assessment timelines vary:
CDSS Programs: Assessments must be completed within the first 60 days of enrollment, and then at six-month intervals.
California State Preschool Programs (CSPP): Assessments must be completed between 60 and 90 calendar days of the child's first day of attendance, and at least once every six months thereafter.
Special Education: For children with an IFSP or IEP, assessments are conducted twice a year (fall and spring). Initial assessments should be initiated within the first 60 days of attendance, followed by six-month intervals.
DRDP (2025) Views and Grade-Level Requirements
There are three views to accommodate a child’s developmental level:
DRDP IT (2025): Infant/Toddler (Early Infancy to 35 months). Use for children aged 2 years, 8 months or younger in preschool.
DRDP PTK (2025): Preschool–Transitional Kindergarten (36 months through Kindergarten). Use for children aged 2 years, 9 months or older.
DRDP PTK-3 (2025): Preschool–Grade 3 (for use in Grades 1–3).
Important Clarifications for Older Children:
TK & Kindergarten: The DRDP (2025) is not required for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten students unless they have an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Grades 1–3: The DRDP is not required in Grades 1–3 classrooms.
School-Age Programs: Programs receiving funding for school-age care or operating as a Family Child Care Home Education Network (FCHEN) or Family Child Care (FCC) must use the DRDP School-Age Simplified Version. This applies to all children in CDSS before- and after-school programs for at least 10 hours per week, including children in TK.
Missing Domains: History-Social Science (HSS) and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA)
The HSS and VPA domains from the DRDP (2015) Comprehensive View were not updated in the DRDP (2025) revisions. However, programs that wish to use these domains may elect to add the DRDP (2015) measures as additional measures when entering data into DRDP Online
Available Reports
Following the conclusion of the Spring 2026 field study, scaled scores are now available. Prior raw rating reports from Fall and Winter 2025–26 have been re-run by WestEd to include these scaled scores for program evaluation.
Accessing Historical Data: Please note that previous year's reports for DRDP (2015) are still fully accessible in the platform for those who already have existing reports. You will not lose access to your historical data during this transition.
Available DRDP (2025) reports include:
Activities Bank Report: Provides suggested activities based on a classroom's developmental levels in various domains.
Child Progress Report: Provides domain-level scale scores for individual children over two rating periods within the same year.
Class Planning Report PTK: Generates a raw score report by measure for all children in a selected classroom.
Cohort Progress Report: Provides domain-scale scores for a selected group of children within the current year (to date), with options to filter by program type.
Group Detail Report: Shows all raw scores by percentage and count for a selected group.
Group Report: Provides domain-level scale scores for a group of children, pullable for a class, an agency, or a specific group (e.g., four-year-olds with completed ELD measures).
Parent Progress Report: Shows a child's rating and additional descriptive information about their progress, designed for use during parent conferences
